The Arizona Coyotes are playing their home games in a makeshift arena as they figure out a permanent place to call home. And judging from the results of voting in Tempe on Tuesday, residents in Arizona have little, if any, interest in building the team a new arena. So, the future for the Coyotes in Arizona looks pretty bleak.

Now that the Coyotes are without a permanent future home, an unlikely figure in the sports world has begun recruiting the embattled NHL team. On Wednesday, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes — who has been silent amidst his brother’s legal troubles — took to social media and showed his support for the Coyotes making a move to Kansas City.

“KC coyotes has a nice ring to it! @NHL what y’all think?” Mahomes posted on Twitter.

Obviously, Mahomes would love to have another professional team in Kansas City. But perhaps his motives could be more business related. After all, Mahomes has three different stakes in a professional sports team in Kansas City. He’s been a minority owner of the Kansas City Royals since 2020 and the MLS club Sporting Kansas City since 2021. He also recently joined his wife, Brittany, as a co-owner of the Kansas City Current of the NWSL.

The sports world reacted to Mahomes’ viral NHL inquiry on social media:
