Before Aaron Rodgers was eventually traded to the New York Jets, there were plenty of rumors about where the former Green Bay Packers quarterback would end up.

One team that was thought to potentially be in the mix was the New England Patriots.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick addressed those rumors on Monday.

“I personally couldn’t speak to that,” Belichick said on The Greg Hill Show on WEEI-FM. “Look, there’s a lot of conversation in the offseason between our personnel people, other executives. So, I don’t know what he’s really talking about. I personally didn’t talk to the Packers about Aaron Rodgers. No. … Aaron Rodgers is a great player. That wasn’t anything that I was aware of.”

The rumors likely got kickstarted because of the rumored bad relationship between Pats quarterback Mac Jones and Belichick.

The Jones/Belichick relationship was in question last year after the Patriots missed the playoffs and Jones struggled without having a real offensive coordinator help run the offense.

However, the Packers may have been asking far too much in a trade for Rodgers, which may be why the trigger wasn’t pulled. Not to mention that Rodgers doesn’t fit Belichick’s offense and he may not have wanted to play there.

It seems, however, Bill O’Brien is starting to make a difference in the Patriots’ offense and may just save the Jones and Belichick relationship.
